Sleeping Arrangements for Memorial Day Guests

Coleman Queen Air Bed

Memorial Day is the official start of the summer season and if you have family or friends staying with you for the long weekend, know it is time to stock the fridge and get the house ready for a crowd.

Here are a few ideas for sleeping a crowd as effortlessly and comfortably as possible.

Every home should have a Futon or pull our couch which both open into full or queen size beds.

A convertible ottoman can be used as a footrest or coffee table when closed.  Open it and it becomes a twin bed.

Air mattresses are an essential in our home  They inflate in seconds and can be purchased in twin, queen and king size mattresses.  Make sure it has a built in pump that plugs into an outlet.  Your guests will think they are on a real bed if you slip a memory foam pad underneath the air mattress. Check out Target for very affordable choices at air beds.

Folding beds are lightweight folding beds that you can keep stored in the garage or basement until ready to use.  They can also be rented from your local event company.  They fold in half so mattresses are thin.  Tuck a comforter under the mattress for more support.

Even the smallest home or cabin has untapped functionality for serving for guest space.  Screened in porches with a swing bed for example.  Utilize folding screens or room dividers to provide privacy for your guests.  My uncle has a large unattached garage which has steps leading up to a top floor.  He has many grandchildren who like to visit him at the lake, so he put several bunk beds on the top floor of the garage and added several shelves with games and activities.  It is the families favorite sleeping area.

Another thought and a great one for kids is pop a tent in the yard, provide sleeping bags, flashlights and it is quite an adventure.

Wishing you a safe and fun Memorial Day!
