Grill Tuesday means Grilled Turkey Burgers

Grilled Turkey Burger with Trimmings

Turkey Burger on the Grill
While we are in the process of recovery from our massive flooding,  one of the best things I can do for my family is provide great meals so we can gather ourselves at the table together and be thankful we have one another.  Grilled turkey burgers are such a healthful alternative to ground beef and a guaranteed crowd pleaser if you are hosting a group.  Fire up the grill, pass the ketchup and mustard, lettuce and sliced tomatoes and fire up the grill!

A good tip for extra flavor is serving them on good quality sourdough or hard rolls.  Better yet, our supermarket is now selling pretzel buns.  Awesome with a good turkey burger.

This recipe serves 8:

2 1/2 pounds ground turkey, 1/2 cup chopped scallions, 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh or dried oregano, 2 minced garlic cloves (don't use if you are not a fan of garlic),  can use a sprinkle of garlic salt which is lighter in taste if you prefer, 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper and 8 of your favorite burger buns. Don't forget your favorite sliced cheese for melting on the burger while grilling.

Combine the ground turkey with the scallions, parsley, oregano, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in a large bowl.  Mix well and form into 8 patties.  LIGHTLY SPRAY THE GRATES OF THE GRILL BEFORE LIGHTING THE GRILL WITH COOKING SPRAY.  NEVER SPRAY THE GRATES WHILE FIRE IS BURNING!!

Prepare a medium hot fire in your charcoal or gas grill.

Grill the patties until cooked through, about 6-7 minutes on each side, turning once.  With a couple of minutes left to grill, top each of the patties with a slice of your favorite cheese to melt evenly, and at this time you can grill the buns, cut side down, until lightly toasted, about 2 minutes.  Be careful they don't burn.

Serve them up with the patties on the bottom halves of the buns and cover each with a bun top.
