Be Our Guest - Make your Home a Haven for the Holidays

Many of us are welcoming family and friends into our homes for the holidays.
Here are a few ways to help make your guests feel welcome.

TOP TEN...

1.  Greet your family and friends when they arrive with a light snack and beverage. Make up a simple antipasto plate, cover in the refrigerator until you serve when they arrive if during the day.  If they arrive in the morning, muffins or coffee cake with fruit is a welcome sight after traveling.

2.  Always have fresh coffee and tea.

3.  Keep bottled waters in the refrigerator so guests can help themselves.

4.  I love a menu chalkboard where you can write down the meals you are serving that day.  Let's your guests prepare and know what to expect.

5.  Keep extra ice on hand.  It saves you from running to the store multiple times during the visit.

6.  Stock extra toiletries.  The small toiletries hotels offer during your stay are perfect to bring home and store in a basket or apothecary jar in the guest bathroom or bedroom so they can easily help themselves.  Stock extra toilet paper and make sure it is easy to find.  I always keep extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, face wash and lotion on hand.

7.  Provide current magazines and books for late night reading.

8.  Leave a basket of freshly baked Christmas cookies so your guests can grab a midnight snack on their own.

9.  Several members of our family need "white noise"  while sleeping.  Because of this, I make sure guests rooms always have a television and a fan.

10.   Start every one's day off in a big way with muffins, waffles or pancakes, or set up a yogurt bar with assorted yogurts, granola and a pitcher of chilled juice of your choice.
