Tips for Preventing Entertaining Overload

Easy Breakfast Ideas

Is your lake house a busy place?  Weekends non - stop?  Sometimes feel you can't come up with meals that are wonderful for your guests?  Do you feel you can't "be on" when you are entertaining?  Lets face it, we all feel that way from time to time.  How do you get out of this state of mind?  Here are a couple of tips to get you back on track and in "hostess mode".

1.  Take a little time for yourself and STEP AWAY from menu and activity planning.  Book a manicure and pedicure for yourself, get a facial, get out in the yard and do some gardening, go for a walk. I find it therapeutic to get in the yard, even pulling weeds, water the flowers, listen to the birds sing, take a little time to watch a sunset, listen to the waves come up on shore.

2.  Keep the weekend food simple.  Steaks or burgers on the grill are easy for a barbecue night.  Ask guests to bring a side dish or a dessert.  It takes some of the pressure off of you and most family and friends are happy to help.  Sunday breakfast should be a dish you can prepare ahead of time, stick in the oven while you make bacon or sausage.  Ask for help with cutting fresh fruit or setting the table.  Often I will take the time to make fresh pancakes and freeze them for future meals.

3.  If a guest asks what they can bring, don't hesitate to suggest even the simple things...bottled water, bagels, coffee and wine always welcome!

4.  Biggest thing to remember is RELAX!  It is family and friends and things don't have to be perfect.
Before you know it, you will feel ready to go again.

Do you have any tips for unwinding from weekend hosting? Have a great weekend.  See you for Grill Tuesday.
