Our lake house has had the misfortune of having not one, but two old Red Oak trees topple over in the past year. We were very fortunate that they did not land on our house or harm anyone, but the loss of our trees was a bit emotional for me.
I can't help but think of the years they stood strong and proud. While doing clean up, my husband and I had an idea to preserve the large stumps from our trees by extending new life into them. My husband cut them down to a reasonable height, painted the tops a bright and cheery color, and fastened a board across the top making our family a nice seating area and grilling station in the backyard. The transparent color still allows us to count the rings on the stumps. It is easy to lose count because the rings are so close together, but we got up to 80 years.
My Mom always said to take an unfortunate experience and turn sour lemons into lemonade. I think she would approve!
Happy Weekend and Thanks for stopping in!
This is really sweet Lynda.
